Engineering FYI, Part II, February 2012

The District of Columbia Council of Engineering and Architectural Societies recently hosted an Engineer Week Awards Banquet. The keynote address was given by Dr. James W. Mitchell, (DC A ’65) dean of engineering at Howard University.

Two Tau Bates were recognized at the awards banquet. Howard C. Gibbs, P.E. (DC A ’72), received the council’s Meritorious Service Award and Dr. Charles Vest, WV A ’63, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Vest is currently president of the NAE. Special thanks to Len Sadauskas, UT A ’66, for representing Tau Beta Pi’s DC Alumnus chapter and reporting on the event.

The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) will hold their 2012 Spring meeting of the ASEE Mid-Atlantic Section April 20-21 at the University of Delaware. Andy Lau, P.E. (PA B ’77), is scheduled to deliver the keynote address. Lau is an associate professor of engineering at Penn State University and “has been the coordinator of the PSU freshman engineering class seminar for 12 years.” For more information, visit the conference website

The Texas Eta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at the University of Texas at Arlington has a new website home. The TX Eta chapter’s candidates recently volunteered at the Fort Worth Regional Science Fair. On March 3, the chapter will host a park clean up, Bent polishing, and cookout.
