New Scientist recently profiled the completion and grand opening of the Tokyo (Japan) Sky Tree. The 634-metre-high TV transmission and observation tower was completed in late February and will be open to the public in May of this year.
According to the article, “the ultrahigh transmitter is needed because the city’s existing Sky Tower transmitter (333-meters high) cannot broadcast above much of the city’s ever-rising skyline.” The architects of the tower promise that “it incorporates some of the most advanced earthquake and typhoon-resistant technology.”
