Engineering Recognition & Events, March 2012

The Central Pennsylvania Engineers Week Council has awarded Dr. Jerry F. Shoup, OH D ’60, with the 2012 Technical Achievement Award. Dr. Shoup is currently the interim director of Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Science, Engineering, and Technology. He is also an associate professor of engineering.

He was recognized “for his public, industry, and institutional service.” Read the full news announcement

Several Tau Bates took part in a recent “joint Ford-Facebook ‘hackathon’ where ten Ford engineers spent all night prototyping social Facebook apps for cars.” The lone female programmer from was Liz Halash, MI E ’09. Software engineer Nick Thorne, MI I ’08, also participated along in the all-night event at Facebook’s headquarters. Read the full story from Forbes

The Alaska Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, will host a guest lecturer Marc Luiken, Alaska Commission of Transportation and Public Facilities, on April 6th. “The lecture will address Alaska’s Roads to Resources Initiative.” Learn more about the free lecture here
