Engineering students from the Missouri University of Science & Technology “are involved in a research project that has supplied laptop computers and an internet connection to villagers in southwest Kenya” to help bring them jobs. By providing laptops the villagers can perform “microtasks” online for pay.

The National Capital Section (NCS) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recently announced the recipients of the 2011-2012 ASCE-NCS Scholarships. Three of this year’s winners are Tau Bates: Nicholas J. Colameco, DC B 2013, Catholic University of America; Max Jordan T. Nguemeni, DC A 2013, Howard University; and Andrew C. Vasko, DC G 2013, George Washington University.
