Dr. Adam C. Siepel, associate professor at Cornell University (NY D 1994), has been named a Guggenheim Fellow by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Dr. Siepel is one of “181 scholars, artists, and scientists in the eighty-eighth annual competition for the United States and Canada.”

He was cited for his research on “Elegant chimera: how computing, statistics, and genetics are revolutionizing the life sciences.” Dr. Siepel uses “precise mathematical models for the complex processes by which genomes evolve over time… to address questions of practical importance for human health.” Click here to read the press release and here to see the full list of 2012 Guggenheim Fellows

Idaho State University and the ISU Association have announced the recipients of the 2012 Outstanding Student Award. Jariullah Safi, ID B 2012, is one of 13 Outstanding Students to be recognized at the Spring Commencement on May 5.

Safi has earned a degree in mechanical and nuclear engineering, amassed a 3.99 GPA, and is past president of the ID Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. Read the news announcement for more information
