Leaders in Engineering Education

The Character Education Partnership (CEP) will award the 2012 American Patriot of Character award to Norman R. Augustine, NJ D ’57. Augustine is the former Chairman and CEO of the Lockheed Martin Corp., former Under Secretary of the United States Army, and a “tireless advocate for improving America’s schools.”

Read the press release for more information on this award “given to one American citizen (a year) whose leadership exemplifies the very best of our nation’s founding principles and ideals.”

The Wyoming Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at the University of Wyoming, has awarded an Outstanding Sophomore award to Erik Schmidt. A chemical engineering major, Schmidt is an active member of AIChE and “hopes to work in research and development in an energy related field” after completing his education. Read the news release

The grand prize winner of the 2012 National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Engineering Award for Connecting Professional Practice and Education is the Florida Atlantic University Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geomatics Engineering. The winning project involved finding “innovative and cost-effective solutions to designing a new water treatment facility for the city (Dania Beach, FL), resulting in the construction of the world’s first LEED Gold-certified water treatment plant.”
