The Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) has announced the 2012 Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards. The awards “provide seed money for research by junior faculty at ORAU member institutions and help the professional growth of young faculty.” Two Tau Bate faculty members received an award: See the full list of winners

Donald Goldfarb, Ph.D. (NY D ’63), has been named the interim dean of engineering at Columbia University. Earlier this week, The New York Times reported that current dean, Feniosky Peña-Mora, will resign.

Dr. Goldfarb is a professor of engineering and former executive vice dean at Columbia. Click here for the article

A team of researchers at Carnegie Mellon University has developed a “prototype headlight system that can detect raindrops or snow streaks and dis-illuminate them.” The lead researcher recently presented his findings at Microsoft Research and at Research@Intel 2012. Read the full article
