The Boston Globe detailed the accomplishments and projects of Pedro “Pete” L. Rustan Jr., IL B ’70, who passed away in June. From a childhood escape from Cuba to his top secret work on spy satellites, Col. Rustan made quite an impact on aerospace engineering and at NASA.
According to the obituary, Rustan was 65 years of age and had returned to work after the terrorist attacks on 09/11/2001 “leading research efforts in satellite reconnaissance for the military and CIA.”

Jack F. McGuire, IA A ’63, was recently initiated into Tau Beta Pi at Iowa State University as an eminent engineer. Mcguire has worked at the Boeing Company for 43 years. He retired in 2006 and then returned to Boeing as a structural engineering consultant. Read the full article from Innovate Online
After the initiation by the Iowa Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, McGuire had this to say, “I was thrilled and honored to be named a TBP Eminent Engineer,” says McGuire. “I have always had an interest in helping engineering organizations, students, and professional alike. this seems like a crowning, concluding achievement to that activity, and a recognition of all the things I’ve done to try to advance the engineering profession.”

The University of Wyoming College of Engineering & Applied Science has announced that Dr. Jerry C. Hamann, WY A ’84, has received the Tau Beta Pi Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award for 2012. Dr. Hamann is a professor of electrical and computer engineering. He received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from UW in 1984.
