Purdue University announced plans this week to hire “more than 100 new engineering professors and boost engineering enrollment by 10 percent over the next five years” in the College of Engineering. Tim D. Sands, Ph.D. (CA A ’80), is acting president at Purdue and said that the decision was made to cope with the growing demand of undergraduate engineering enrollment.

Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Leah H. Jamieson (IN A ’74), added that “as many as 107 new professors in mechanical, astronautics, and biomechanical engineering will be hired in the next five years.” This would grow the engineering faculty to more than 450. Read more here

A recent Q&A session with Oklahoma State University engineering professor Dr. Gary L. Foutch, P.E. (MO B ’76), touched on his work to develop more efficient toilets worldwide. Dr. Foutch and his project is “competing for Phase 2 funding with from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.”
