The New Mexico Business Weekly reported on the 2012 New Mexico Women in Technology Awards. This year the New Mexico Technology Council honored nine women for their achievements. Dr. Sonya L. Cooper, P.E., was one of the winners recognized in education. Read the article

Dr. Cooper, NC A ’82, is an associate dean and professor of engineering at New Mexico State University. She also serves as an advisor to the New Mexico Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi.

This week the College Sports Information Directors of America selected the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Teams. This year the selections were divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. “First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second, and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.” See the full list of honorees

Six current Tau Beta Pi collegiate members were selected to All-District first teams:
1. Michael Birk, NY G 2013 – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, mechanical engineering
2. Caleb Collier MO B 2013 – Missouri University of Science & Technology, mechanical engineering
3. Tyler Iosue NY G 2013 – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, mechanical engineering
4. Tyler Riggs KY A 2013 – University of Kentucky, mechanical engineering
5. Jacob (Jake) Tonkel NY G 2013 – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, mechanical engineering
6. Adam Updegrove NY G 2013 – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, mechanical engineering

Three other engineering students were recognized that have been elected to join Tau Beta Pi this semester:
1. Ryan Gordon NJ E 2014 – Rowan University, chemical engineering
2. Matthew J. Sarett PA G 2014 – Carnegie Mellon University, electrical & computer engineering
3. Austin Windsor, OH I 2013 – Ohio Northern University, mechanical engineering

Earlier this year, Warren M. Boley Jr., IN G ’84, was named as President of Aerojet. Previously, Boley spent 27 years with the Pratt and Whitney business unit of United Technologies Corp. where he most recently had been president of the military engines division.
