The Chronicle of Higher Education is reporting that another round of grants has been awarded to two dozen universities by the U.S. Energy Department for research into breakthrough energy technologies. Drexel University’s team for the upcoming DAPRA sponsored contest (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) to build robots that can respond to nuclear emergencies was recently profiled in The Inquirer of Philadelphia. The international competition includes U.S. universities and private companies building a robot and programming it to accomplish a series of tasks similar to what the first respondents of a nuclear disaster would encounter.
“The contest was inspired by the “Fukushima 50,” the men that stayed behind at the Japanese plant to work to avert a nuclear meltdown in 2011.” Read the article
