The University of Massachusetts at Amherst has named Dr. Timothy J. Anderson as the new dean of the College of Engineering. Dr. Anderson, IA A ’73, will begin his appointment on March 1, 2013.
In addition to being a distinguished professor of chemical engineering at the University of Florida, Dr. Anderson is also editor-in-chief of the IEEE Journal of Photovoltaics. Click here to read the full news release

The Southern (IL) is reporting that the Southern Illinois University Carbondale has received an Illinois Humanities Council grant “to create a traveling exhibit and programs on the life of Mary Hegeler Carus, an acclaimed mining engineer, industrialist and philanthropist.”
The exhibit will open on March 5 at the John C. Guyon Auditorium at Morris Library and “will highlight the ways in which American women have shaped technology and society for more than 100 years.” For more information, read the article

Tau Beta Pi would like to recognize Frederick M. Foster Jr., MI B 1932, as the 85th Tau Bate centenarian. Foster graduated from Michigan Tech University in 1933 with degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering. He was born March 3, 1911, in Nahma, MI.
