Dr. Jean-Lou A. Chameau, GA A ’77, has been appointed as the next president of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Saudi Arabia). Currently, Dr. Chameau is the eighth president at the California Institute of Technology. He will resign his position later this year.

The California Epsilon Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at UCLA hosted its third-annual Rube Goldberg competition earlier this month. This year’s event was co-sponsored by the UCLA Engineering Alumni Association and Lockheed Martin. Read the article from the Daily Bruin
First prize went to team WaterWorld, which bested sixteen other teams in building complicated contraptions to perform simple tasks. Dr. William Goodin, CA E ’75, associate director of alumni relations at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, was one of the judges, “You need a very complex machine, but it needs to work,” Dr. Goodin said.

February 22, 2013, is the deadline for the Dam Safety 2013 Student Paper and Poster competitions. Click here for details on the competitions and how to submit an entry. Winners will be announced in conjunction with Dam Safety 2013, Sept. 8-12, at the Rhode Island Convention Center.
