Engineering FYI, March 2013

The popular series of articles that ran in The BENT of Tau Beta Pi (2002-2012), “Lyle’s Laws,” has now been made into a compilation. Dr. Lyle D. Feisel, IA A ’61, is the author of the recently released book Lyle’s Laws Reflections on Ethics, Engineering, and Everything Else (Brooklyn River Press, 2013).

Dr. Feisel most recently served as the interim Executive Director of the American Society for Engineering Education (2010-11). He is offering a special deal to those that would like an autographed copy of the new book. For all the details, click here

Union College recently highlighted all the work being done by the New York Mu Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at the college. In addition to hosting the recent District 2 Conference with 83 students and 15 TBP alumni, the NY Mu chapter recently began work on a local K-12 community service activity. Read the article

The first event included teaching 12-15 year old students about the basics of electrical and mechanical engineering using Play Doh, batteries, and LEDs. “Our students are helping to teach the community more about engineering and get children excited about the possibility of pursuing math and science,” Jennifer Currey, (NY G ’00) assistant professor of engineering and chief advisor to NY Mu said.

Georgia Tech recently announced the winner of the Tau Beta Pi Cup Award for 2013. The annual honor is “the highest that can be bestowed upon a senior (student) in the College of Engineering at Tech.” This year’s winner is Eric Powers. He is a chemical and biomolecular engineering major and member of the varsity men’s cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field teams.
