The Illinois Institute of Technology has announced the ITT Build-It Competition: An Impromptu Design Competition, for teams of high school students “to design and build the best solution to an engineering problem.” The first ever competition of its kind at ITT is sponsored by the Armour College of Engineering, the Illinois Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, and the Office of Student Access, Success and Diversity Initiatives. The Michigan Women’s Historical Center & Hall of Fame will be hosting an exhibit beginning this week entitled “STEMinists: Michigan Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).” The exhibit was profiled in the Detroit Free Press for its focus “on women working in (STEM) fields to celebrate their achievements, raise awareness and encourage women to seek opportunities in those areas.”

On March 16, Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) will host the EA Hackathon 2013 dubbed “Escape from /dev/null.” Teams will compete in the web-based programming competition through a board game scenario with a science fiction narrative. “At every move, teams will solve a practical programming challenge (light on algorithmic brain-twisters, heavy on coding). These solutions will undergo a code review from EA judges to determine if the team is ready to move forward or not.” Click here for more information
