Sharon D. Cobb, Ph.D. (AL G ’87), recently visited the Jordan/Jackson Elementary School in Mansfield, AL, to “share details on the latest rocket system being designed.” Dr. Cobb is an assistant program manager and engineer at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. She received her undergraduate degree in materials engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
The article details how Dr. Cobb and fellow engineer Elizabeth Robinson impressed the young students with details of the vehicle being designed to take astronauts to Mars.

An engineering professor from the University of Southern California has been invited to present his research at NASA’s annual Technology day in Washington D.C. on July 23. Behrokh Khoshnevis, Ph.D. (OH D ’79), “will present his NASA-funded Contour Crafting research, which uses computerized robots to build houses and facilities on Earth and elsewhere in the universe. He is currently working with NASA to design and build infrastructure elements, such as an airport on the moon and Mars.”
Dr. Khoshnevis says, “I would like to seep people live (on other planets), create atmospheres there, and change those planets to the extent that we can and that is not harmful to their existence.” Read the news article for more information
