Teresa A. Dahlberg, Ph.D. (PA L ’84), has been selected as the new Dean of the Albert Nerken School of Engineering at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. She will begin her new position on August 5, 2013. Currently, Dr. Dahlberg is the associate dean, College of Computing and Informatics at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Read the news release for more biographical information, including information on the STARS Computing Corps. a national organization she created “to engage upcoming students for entry and success in college computing programs.”

The American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) has announced the 2013 class of Fellows. The Academy welcomes 12 new Fellows, five of which are Tau Beta Pi members. They are: (See the full list)

1. Stephanie G. Adams, Ph.D. – (NE A ’89) dept. head & professor of engineering education at Virginia Tech.
2. Cynthia J. Finelli, Ph.D. – (MI G ’88) professor & director, CRLT – Engineering at the University of Michigan.
3. Susan M. Lord, Ph.D. – (NY D ’87) professor & coordinator of electrical engineering program at the University of San Diego.
4. Jessica. O. Matson, Ph.D., P.E. – (MS A ’74) professor at Tennessee Technological University.
5. David L. Whitman, Ph.D. – (WY A ’75) professor at the University of Wyoming.

Reuters recently reported on the technology recruiting battle between Detroit automakers and technology companies in Silicon Valley. According to the article, Ford Motor Co. and other companies “need to hire thousands of engineers at a time when software is playing a much more prominent role in vehicle design than even a few years ago.” The focus is on finding engineers than are “codaholics” to write software applications for vehicles.
