Aspiring freshmen engineers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are taking part in a “virtual internship” as part of a new course “aimed at improving engineering student retention by hooking and reeling prospective engineers (during) their first semester of college.” The offering evolved from research being done at UW-Madison on MACROSIM, or massively adaptive complex realistic online simulation with interactive mentoring, an extension of MOOCs. Ohio University has announced that the Ohio Delta chapter of Tau Beta Pi will host weekly study sessions for engineering students on Mondays. The Monday sessions begin on September 23 from 4-6pm. The TBP members will even take specific course or subject requests in advance. Contact information is available.
