The Michigan Daily, the campus newspaper of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, featured the return of the annual Society of Women Engineers and Tau Beta Pi Career Fair being held September 23-24. The student-run career fair is one of the largest in the country and attracts nearly 300 companies. There are four student directors of the fair and the two from the MI Gamma chapter of Tau Beta Pi are Natalie S. Eyke, MI G 2014, and Michael J. Boyd, MI G 2014. The top prize at the 20 Over 20 hackathon went to a team from the Southern Methodist University Bobby Lyle School of Engineering. The team consisted of two sophomores, one senior, and two grad students that worked on the idea and business plan for a product that would help people track their possessions via their phone. Read the article for more details on the event, including other projects that were designed.

Two engineering students at Purdue University have developed custom-made electric skateboard motors that can be attached to most skateboards. The company and the product is called Kickr. The product was recently highlighted by the USA Today and the two have started a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds towards production. The students hope they can sell Kickr for about $400 each.
