In the spring of 2014, visualization expert Jason Leigh, Ph.D. (UT A ’88), will join the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa as part of the Hawai’i Innovation Initiative. Dr. Leigh is currently a professor of computer science and director of the Electronic Visualization Lab and Software Technologies Research Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago. A joint gift from Donald and Pamela Washkewicz and the Parker Hannifin Foundation equals the largest in Cleveland State University history and the largest gift by far for the CSU engineering program. As a result, the CSU Board of Trustees has voted to “rename the College the Washkewicz College of Engineering at Cleveland State University.”

Funds from the generous gift will go towards the improvement of the engineering program building, a new Laboratory for Research and Innovation, and scholarships to undergraduate students. Read the news release

The University of Virginia has appointed the duties of associate provost for the undergraduate educational experience in addition to his role as a professor of engineering to Archie L. Holmes, Ph.D. (TX A ’90). Dr. Holmes joined the faculty at UVA in 2007 and his “current research interests are focused on the crystal growth of semiconductors and the design and fabrication of electronic and optoelectronics devices.” Read more here
