Two academics in engineering recently published a children’s book focused on “incorporating fourth- through sixth-grade learning objectives for science.” The book, “Designing Dandelions,” was co-authored by Emily M. Hunt, Ph.D. (TX B ’01), and Michelle Pantoya, Ph.D. Dr. Hunt is a professor of mechanical engineering at West Texas A&M University and Dr. Pantoya is a mechanical engineering professor at Texas Tech University.

“We did a survey and found kids don’t know what engineering is,” Dr. Hunt said. “Early on, we at least need to teach kids what engineering is, so they have more information to work with.
