On January 8, members of the Kentucky Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi were honored at half court during the University of Kentucky men’s basketball game against Mississippi State University. The game was being played at the 23,000-seat Rupp arena in Lexington, Kentucky. The KY Alpha chapter has had a year to remember after sweeping the national awards at the 2013 Tau Beta Pi Convention.
It was the first time in Tau Beta Pi history that a chapter was named both the R.H. Nagel Most Improved chapter and R.C. Matthews Outstanding chapter of the Association. The awesome teamwork and efforts of the current and previous chapter members and advisors includes hosting the 2012 Tau Beta Pi Convention, winning the 2013 J.D. Froula Most Improved Membership Award, and their chief advisor Bruce L. Walcott, Ph.D. (IN A ’81), being selected as the 2013 Tau Beta Pi Outsanding Advisor.

UPower Technologies, Inc., recently won first place in their division (Shell Infrastructure & Resources Track) of the 2013 MIT Clean Energy Prize. UPower is a start-up technology company “developing the only always-on, emission-free generator for microgrids” that began in 2012. The three founders make-up the current management team at UPower, which includes Jacob D. DeWitte, FL A ’08, the UPower CEO and co-founder.
