Teach For America (TFA) Director of STEM Recruitment & Partnerships Joey P. Wilson, Ph.D. (FL A ’07), will discuss his “personal journey as an engineer who is passionate about STEM education, LGBTQ rights, and educational equity” as part of an upcoming webinar. You can register for the webinar here, which will take place on Wednesday, February 12, beginning at 8:30pm (ET).

Wilson has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, taught high school science in Arizona with TFA, and received his Ph.D. in bioenigneering from the University of California, Berkeley. You can watch a short video about Joey Wilson on Tau Beta Pi’s partner web page with TFA.

The deadline for the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Scholarships for 2014 is February 15. The scholarships are for sophomores through graduate students for the 2014-15 academic year. “The SWE Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to women admitted to accredited baccalaureate or graduate programs, in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science.” Visit the SWE Scholarship web page to apply and for the full list of available scholarships.

In partnership with the Western Kentucky University (WKU) Engineering faculty and staff and with the support of the Kentucky Gamma Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at WKU, the 14th annual Kentucky Bluegrass LEGO Robotics Competition will take place on February 22 at Drakes Creek Middle School. The 2014 competition will include teams of students from elementary and middle school building autonomous robots to navigate through tracks. Read the article for more event information
