Thursday, February 20, is Girl Day. As part of Engineers Week 2014, Girl Day is an opportunity for “events that make a difference to the girls in your community. The movement shows girls how creative and collaborative engineering is and how engineers are changing the world.” Girl Day activities are not confined to February 20. In a recent news release, MIT announced the appointment of “the Institute’s two most senior academic posts.” Both the new provost, Martin A. Schmidt, Ph.D. (NY G ’81), and the new chancellor, Cynthia Barnhart, Ph.D. (VT A ’81), are Tau Beta Pi members.
Dr. Schmidt is an electrical engineering professor, has served as associate provost since 2008, and earned both his SM and Ph.D. at MIT. Dr. Barnhart is a professor in the civil and environmental engineering department, has served as associate dean of the School of Engineering since 2007, and also received her SM and Ph.D. at MIT.

Tau Beta Pi is pleased to announce that a charter has been granted by the TBP Executive Council to establish the New Orleans, Louisiana, alumni chapter.
