The West Virginia Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at West Virginia University, is hosting its annual Spring Bike Drive from April 7 to April 18. The event is co-sponsored by Positive Spin, a local nonprofit organization that encourages alternative transportation and serves as a bicycle-recycling center. You can donate bicycles, bicycle parts, new helmets, or simply make a donation. The bikes will then be repaired and donated to local area residents in need. There are three drop-off locations. The 2nd Annual Video Game Tournament hosted by the Florida Epsilon Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), will take place on Friday, April 11. You must purchase tickets in advance to participate. The event is co-hosted by the IEEE Engineering club on campus. Click here for more information
The FL Epsilon chapter also hosted several fun activities to celebrate Pi Day 2014, including a scavenger hunt competition where teams had to find a list of items and take pictures. In March, several campus groups including the Florida Zeta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at the Florida Institute of Technology, hosted 100 sixth graders from Suntree Elementary School (FL) for a campus visit “to increase student awareness and interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.” The group of K-12 students participated in hands-on activities and witnessed several technology exhibits. FL Zeta’s chief advisor Daniel R. Kirk, Ph.D. (NY G ’97), had this to say about the event. “We are excited that our university can help to inspire these young students to pursue STEM education.” Read the article
