Five engineering students from Montana Tech of The University of Montana and their bicycle-powered water treatment system were recently profiled. The environmental engineering students presented a prototype of their steel system at this past weekend’s Techxpo Design Showcase. David L. Hutchins, MT B 2014, is one of the students involved in creating the H2O Cycle and he discussed the motivation for the invention. “I’ve done a lot of camping and backpacking with large groups,” Hutchins said of how the group came up with the idea for the system. “Current pump filter treatment systems aren’t ergonomic and they’re expensive.”
At the recent Institute for Energy and Environment engineering competition the H2O Cycle won first place in the open task division. “The water treatment system also won the innovation and sustainability award, beating out projects submitted by college students from all over the nation.” Read the article from The Montana Standard for more information
