Earlier this summer, the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) recognized 18 scientists and engineers with the prestigious Dr. Delores M. Etter Top Scienctist and Engineer of the Year Award. The annual award was established in 2006 by Delores M. Etter, Ph.D. (NM B ’79), and is sponsored by the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research. Dr. Etter is a former Assistant Secretary of the Navy (2005-07) and U.S. Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Science and Technology (1998-2001). She is currently a professor and chair in engineering at Southern Methodist University.

Several of the 2013 Top Scientists and Engineers are Tau Beta Pi members, including:
1. Benjamin D. Gould, Ph.D. – (CO A ’02) tactical electronic warfare division and chemistry division
2. Zachary J. Waters, Ph.D. – (MA H ’04) acoustics division


The 20th Annual USC CMAA Construction Management Symposium has announced a list of distinguished keynote speakers that will present on November 6 in Los Angeles, CA. The USC-CMAA Symposium “gathers the architecture, construction and engineering communities to explore timely topics and opportunities within the industry.”

One of the keynote speakers will be Bruce N. Fox, P.E. (NC A ’76), who serves on the One World Trade Center project (formerly the Freedom Tower) as Owner’s Representatives for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He has previously worked for Tishman Realty & Construction on the Renaissance Center (MI) and with HRH on the Rockefeller Research Laboratories (NY). Click here for more biographical information


Tau Beta Pi has learned that two former officers from the DC Alpha Chapter at Howard University have received post graduate awards to continue their education. Corine M. Jackman, DC A 2013, received a Ford Foundation Fellowship for graduate studies in bioengineering at the University of Michigan. She served as DC Alpha Chapter President during the 2012-13 academic year.

Cherrelle J. Thomas, DC A 2013, received a NSF Graduate Research Fellowship to study in the Korgel Group at University of Texas and is a previous corresponding secretary for DC Alpha.
