The Illinois Institute of Technology welcomes Jill S. Tietjen, P.E. (VA A ’76), to campus on Monday, November 17, from 10-11am in the ballroom of The McCormick Tribune Campus Center for her presentation “Halls of History, Horizons of Leadership: Women Engineering the Future.” Tietjen is president and CEO of Technically Speaking, Inc., author of Her Story: Timeline of Women Who Changed America, and an electrical engineer and member of Colorado’s Women’s Hall of Fame.

Last week, student organizations, including the TN Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at Vanderbilt University hosted a celebration of engineering, or E-Day, to give “undergraduates a break from the fall grind while staying true to their field of study.” Activities included Code Golf, Rubik’s Cube, a “Minute to Win It,” and an edible car contest.
TN Beta recording secretary Justin E. Huntress, TN B 2015, was the Tau Beta Pi organizer and spoke about the strategy behind getting an edible car to roll. “The biggest key is finding wheels that will support the weight of the car and roll, Huntress said. “Corn is sturdy, but it doesn’t roll. Ernestine Fu, CA G 2013, recently covered the Cardinal Game Jam, which is Stanford University’s “first hackathon for game development. The 27-hour event took place last weekend and involved multiple groups at Stanford, notably the Alumni Association and Tau Beta Pi the engineering honor society.” Fu is a senior associate at Alsop Louie Partners and an advisor to the CA Gamma Chapter of Tau Beta Pi.
The Forbes article that she was a co-contributor for detailed ten games from the Cardinal Game Jam, including the winning game Deep Water Dragon. Collin E. Jackson, Ph.D. (CT A ’04), led the team that developed Deep Water Dragon with members that work at Apportable, SpriteBuilder, or Cocos2D. Jackson is Co-Founder and CEO at Apportable and also works as an assistant research professor at Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley.
