At a ceremony at the White House on November 24, 2014, President Obama awarded 18 Presidential Medals of Freedom. Mildred S. Dresselhaus, Ph.D. (SC G ’51), received her medal (image below) and was cited for being “one of the most prominent physicists, materials scientists, and electrical engineers of her generation. A professor of physics and electrical engineering at MIT, she is best known for deepening our understanding of condensed matter systems and the atomic properties of carbon, which has contributed to major advances in electronics and materials research.” Click here for the announcement and short bios of the recipients.

The Allen Kraus Thermal Management Medal was awarded to Peter E. Raad, Ph.D. (TN A ’80), at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition in Montreal, Canada. Dr. Raad is a professor of mechanical engineering at Southern Methodist University (SMU). He was being honored for “outstanding achievements in thermal management of electronic systems and for his commitment to the field of thermal science and engineering.” Read the news release from SMU for more biographical information.

Andrew Quinn Starker – OK B 2015, a mechanical engineering senior at the University Tulsa and second team All-American; he was a four-year letter winner as a defender, was a two-time Capital One All-Academic honoree, and was named to the Tulsa President’s List and was a C-USA Academic Medal Winner as a freshman, sophomore, & junior.
Julian Ringhof – CA AE 2014, a mechanical engineering senior from the University of San Diego and third team All-American; he has a 3.9 cumulative G.P.A., was named 1st Team All-WCC, was a two-time Capital One All-Academic honoree, and was selected as WCC Player of the Week on November 3, 2014.
