Brent D. Lang, MI G ’90, has been selected as one of six former student-athletes to receive this year’s NCAA Silver Anniversary Award. “The Silver Anniversary Award annually recognizes distinguished individuals on the 25th anniversary of the conclusion of their college athletics careers.” Lang is currently president and CEO of Vocera Communications.
He graduated from the University of Michigan (UM) with a bachelor’s degree in industrial & operations engineering and was also selected as TBP Laureate, in 1989, for athletics. According to the NCAA award release, “Lang learned about leadership and teamwork as a swimmer at the UM” where he became a four-time NCAA champion and won gold at the 1988 Olympics.

The 2014 Senior CLASS Award® for Men’s Soccer has been awarded to Alex Ivanov, OH G 2014, a recent graduate from The Ohio State University with a degree in electrical & computer engineering. Ivanov was a goalkeeper and became the first Academic All-American in the program’s history has been selected through nationwide balloting. “The award, chosen by a vote of Division I men’s soccer coaches, national soccer media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I men’s soccer. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – classroom, community, character and competition.”
During his senior season, Ivanov led the Big Ten Conference in saves for the second consecutive year with 91 stops and vaulted the Buckeyes back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010. He finished third on Ohio State’s all-time career saves list with 239 stops and fifth in career shutouts with 15. While serving as team co-captain, Ivanov has been equally productive in the classroom and in the local community. He also has been involved in multiple outreach programs for youth, including a lead role with a non-profit organization aimed at improving the quality of life for children battling brain tumors.
