The Winston Churchill Foundation has been notifying the 2015-16 Churchill Scholars. Several universities have published news releases concerning students that will begin studying in England in the fall of 2015. There are a total of 14 U.S. Churchill Scholars and at least three are Tau Beta Pi members. They are:
Sophie E. Miller – (CA G 2015) chemical engineering major at Stanford University & cataloger for CA Gamma Chapter of TBP
Sandya Subramanian – (MD A 2015) president of MD Alpha Chapter of TBP & biomedical engineering major at John Hopkins University
David M. Zoltowski – (MI A 2015) majoring in electrical engineering at Michigan State University

After more than 30 years of government service, Laurence (Larry) H. Burger, AL A ’80, recently retired and was recognized during a January 7 ceremony. Burger was the director of the SMDC/ARSTRAT Future Warfare Center and a member of the Senior Executive Service. He began his career with the Ballistic Missile Defense Systems Command in 1984.
Burger earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Auburn University and is a member of the Army Acquisition Corps and various boards and review groups for space and missile defense systems. Click here to read the article

The University of Illinois has announced that Michael D. Amiridis, Ph.D. (SC B ’85), will become the new chancellor of the University of Illinois (UIC) at Chicago. Dr. Amiridis is currently executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of South Carolina (USC) in Columbia. He has also previously been a professor, researcher, and senior administrator at USC during his two-plus decades on campus.
He will likely begin his new positions at UIC on March 16. In addition to chancellor Dr. Amiridis will also assume the role of University vice president. Read the news release for more information.
