The fourteen final teams have been announced in the Wendy Schmidt Ocean Health XPRIZE. The “global competition (is) to create pH sensor technology that will accurately measure ocean acidification.” The next step for the teams is submitting their sensor for “a month-long performance test in a coastal environment at the Seattle Aquarium.”

Ohio State University (OSU) engineering professor Sudhir K. Sastry, Ph.D. (FL A ’80), is leading one of the finalists. His team “OSU FABE Sastry lab” consists of a team of scientists and engineers from OSU’s department of food, agricultural and biological engineering. The University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) recently hosted the FIRST Lego League state championships. More than 70 teams competed in the Lego robotics competition. “The entries were scored for such attributes as robot design, performance and project research. The champion can qualify to compete with teams from around the world at competitions in either St. Louis or at Legoland in California.”
