Patrick T. Harker, Ph.D. (PA D ’81), has announced his intentions to step down as president of the University of Delaware (UD) to become president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. He will begin his new position on July 1, 2015. Dr. Harker has been UD president for the past eight years. Read his announcement on the UD website for more information.
In his new role, Harker will serve as the 11th president and chief executive officer of the Philadelphia Fed. James E. Nevels, chairman of the Philadelphia Fed’s board of directors explained how Dr. Harker emerged as the best candidate, “His deep roots in the region, his distinguished career in academia, his drive for innovation, and his passion to make our region an economic engine for the future truly impressed our board.”

A group of student members from the Florida Gamma Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at the University of South Florida, attended last week’s 2015 Tampa Bay Engineers banquet with members of the Tampa Bay Alumni Chapter of TBP. The event’s guest speaker was former NASA astronaut Story Musgrave. The title of his talk was “Design a Life for Yourself: One Little Step at a Time.”

Lu is the FL Gamma chapter vice president and Hazucha serves as the chapter’s corresponding secretary. The Peninsula Engineers Council has named Suzanne M. Beckstoffer, NC A ’82, as the Virginia Peninsula Engineer of the Year. Beckstoffer is currently the engineering director of process and tools at Huntington Ingalls Industries. She received the award on February 28 at the 45th annual Peninsula Engineers Council Annual Banquet.
Beckstoffer was nominated for the award by the Hampton Roads section of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME). “Among the four highly qualified candidates nominated this year for the Peninsula Engineer of the Year Award, Ms. Beckstoffer’s exceptional record of leadership, technical accomplishments, contributions to the profession and contributions to the community stood out above the nominees,” said Gary Fuller, president of the Peninsula Engineers Council.
