Melissa L. Morris. Ph.D. (WV A ’06), was one of six West Virginia University (WVU) professors to be named a recipient of the 2015 WVU Foundation Award for Outstanding Teaching. Dr. Morris is a teaching assistant professor and four years removed from earning her Ph.D.

“I’m honored to receive this award for doing something that I truly love,” Dr. Morris said. Her father Gary J. Morris, Ph.D. (WV A ’80), won the Foundation Award for Outstanding Teaching in 1993. Read the press release for more on Dr. Morris and the other five outstanding WVU professors.

A public-private partnership between the Center for Advanced Radio Astronomy at the University of Texas at Brownsville (UTB) and SpaceX has launched a series of community gatherings entitled “STARGATE TALKS” (Spacecraft Tracking and Astronomical Research into Giga-Hertz Astrophysical Transient Emission). Christopher R. Wren, Ph.D. (MA B ’93), will be the keynote speaker at the inaugural STARGATE TALKS on Tuesday, April 14.

Wren is a senior software engineer at Google and “one of the architects of the Android smartphone operating system.” His presentation titled “Just Google It,” will discuss insights into development of the Android framework and how Google manages innovation. Later that day he will also deliver a free presentation to UTB students and faculty. For more information, read the article
