Outstanding Students, May 2015

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced the 2015 Women’s At-Large Academic All-District Teams, including Division I, II, III, and college (division). All First Team Academic All-District selections advance to the national Capital One Academic All-American ballot.

There are nine Tau Beta Pi members that have been named to the 2015 Capital One Women’s At-Large Academic All-District teams: (See the full list)

NCAA Division III: First team (District 1)
1. Margaret G. Guo – (MA B 2016) for swimming at MIT, electrical & computer science & engineering
2. Caitlin Mackey – (MA B 2015) for field hockey at MIT, mechanical engineering (2014 TBP Scholar)
NCAA Division I: First team (District 2)
Kathleen A. Heinbach – (MD G 2016) for rowing at U.S. Naval Academy, electrical engineering
NCAA Division III: First team (District 3)
Lauren Bailey – (NY K 2015) for swimming at University of Rochester, chemical engineering
NCAA Division I: First team (District 5)
Ashley A. Armstrong – (IN G 2015) for golf at University of Notre Dame, mechanical engineering (TBP chapter treasurer)
NCAA Division II: First team (District 5)
Samantha McCuskey – (FL Z 2015) for rowing at Florida Institute of Tech., chemical engineering (TBP chapter advisor)
NCAA Division I: First team (District 6)
1. Shelby L. Amsley-Benzie – (ND B 2016) for hockey at University of North Dakota, chemical engineering
2. Kimberly T. Dinh – (WI A 2015) for golf at University of Wisconsin-Madison, chemical & biological engineering (TBP chapter advisor)
NCAA Division II: First team (District 8)
1. Liz Bird – (CA Y 2015) for diving at University of California, San Diego, bioengineering

Steven R. DelaCruz, NV A 2015, completed his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno this month. During the spring commencement ceremony he was named the recipient of the 2015 Herz Gold Medal for “outstanding scholarship presented to the graduating senior with the highest grade-point average.” Other recent accomplishments by DelaCruz include 2013 Goldwater Scholar, 2013 Udall Scholar, 2015-16 Tau Beta Pi Fellow, and he completed more than 50 credits worth of honors coursework, the most in the University program’s history. Read the news announcement for more biographical information including his plans to pursue a doctorate degree in chemical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.
