Recognizing Recent Graduates, May 2015

Stevens Institute of Technology recently profiled the two graduating students with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Both were recognized as “having attained the highest academic achievement of this year’s graduates” and both are Tau Beta Pi members. Alexander G. Baetz, NJ A 2015, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, his father was a Steven’s graduate (Albert G. Baetz, NJ A ’81), and he will begin his career with ExxonMobil Research and Engineering in the company’s distillation, gas processes and energy section in Texas.

Tatyana Fedorenko, NJ A 2015, has earned degrees (bachelor’s) in mechanical engineering and (master’s) in civil engineering. She served as philanthropy chair for the NJ Alpha Chapter of TBP in 2014, performed research on the Hoberman sphere, and will work as a field engineer at ExxonMobil Pipeline Group in California. Araxia G. Sevdayan, CA Q 2015, will be recognized as one of nine “2015 Outstanding Graduates” by their respective colleges during the commencement ceremonies at the California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). She is the CSULB College of Engineering selection and a graduating senior with a degree in mechanical engineering. She currently serves as an advisor to the CA Theta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi and previously served as the chapter’s president and corresponding secretary.

According to her news article bio, she is a pianist and guitarist, highly involved on campus in student leadership and community service positions, and recently interned at Mathobotix (teaching robotics design to K-12 students). Her future plans include pursuing an advanced degree and a career in project management.

On May 3, more than 100 students were honored for academic excellence at the annual All-College Honors Convocation at Lafayette College (PA). Several Tau Beta Pi members were recognized, including (See the full list of honorees):

John H. Jarboe – (PA E 2016) AIChE award for highest GPA from junior in chemical engineering
Yehou M. Gnopo – (PA E 2015) awarded to “best qualified (student) for advanced work in materials science & engineering
Christopher C. Verni – (PA E 2015) award for achievement by senior in chemistry
Leikune F. Aragaw – (PA E 2015) most outstanding seniors in civil & environmental engineering
Emily M. Crossette – (PA E 2015) most outstanding seniors in civil & environmental engineering
Julia M. Kripas – (PA E 2015) most outstanding seniors in civil & environmental engineering
