On Friday, June 5, the commencement speech for the Schuylkill Haven Area High School (PA) graduation ceremony was given by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, assistant division chief, mechanical systems division, Susan R. Breon, Ph.D. (PA B ’80). Dr. Breon graduated from Schuylkill 39 years ago and spoke to those on hand about advances in scientific knowledge in the time since and her work at NASA.

“While her speciality is cryogenics, she assured the students that her work has nothing to do with astronauts traveling in suspended animation to Mars, rather she develops systems that cool satellite detectors to fifty thousandths of a degree above absolute zero.” Read the article for more details on her speech.

In conjunction with the 122nd annual American Society for Engineering Education’s (ASEE) conference in Seattle, WA, from June 14-17, the Tau Beta Pi Association is hosting a reception at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel. The reception will take place Monday, June 15, in Willow A (ballroom on second flood in main hotel building) from 6:30 to 8:30pm. There will be light refreshments and TBP Executive Director, Secretary-Treasurer & Editor Curtis D. Gomulinski, MI E ’01, will be on hand.

Zachary A. Goff, FL I 2015, recently graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (FL) with a degree in aerospace engineering with honors magna cum laude. According to the Great Fall Tribune (IA), he has accepted a position as a systems engineer for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
