Engineering FYI, July 2015

The 2015 ISS R&D Conference is taking place this week (July 7-9) in Boston, MA. According to the website, the conference provides “the latest innovations, breakthroughs, and discoveries onboard the International Space Station” and is also a place for networking and education with industry leaders and those from academia. The two keynote speakers are Elon Musk (Telsa Motors CEO) and Rachel Crane (CNN correspondent).

Tau Beta Pi is accepting applications for its four directors of programs. The deadline is July 15, to submit a letter of interest and current resume for one of the following positions: Director of Alumni Affairs, Director of Engineering Futures, Director of Fellowships, and Director of Rituals. A summary of each position with travel requirements can be found here. In addition, this page includes links to complete job descriptions. Applicants must be members of Tau Beta Pi and past experience and knowledge of the Association and its operations is desired.

The Bangor Daily News (ME) has profiled the bicycle baskets created by Kettle Cove Enterprises and Jim H. Huebener, IA A ’78. The “baskets are made entirely out of used lobster trap parts – complete with authentic re-purposed Gulf of Maine barnacles – or new, never left dry land, parts. Huebener is an engineer, part-time lobsterman, and avid cyclist. Read the article for more information on the bicycle trap baskets
