Tau Beta Pi has announced the selection of five students as 2015 Laureates in the annual program to recognize gifted engineering students who have excelled in areas beyond their technical majors. This year’s TBP Laureates are Ashley A.Armstrong, (IN G ’15) for achievements in athletics; Michael E. Holloway, (TN A ’16) for achievements in the arts; Pedro P. Vallejo Ramirez, (NY K ’16) for service contributions; Megan Waytashek, (SD B ’15) for achievements in athletics; and David Zoltowski, (MI A ’15) for diverse achievements.

Tim Austin, P.E., has been named president of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) for 2015-16. Austin is office manager for Kaw Valley Engineering’s Wichita office, and has worked with developers and builders for decades. In addition on the NSPE website, Natalie Y. Harvill, P.E. (TX B ’97), was the member spotlight.

The Indian Panorama recently profiled Krishna V. Shenoy, Ph.D. (CA T ’90) for his work in “developing a technique to make brain-controlled prostheses more precise. Dr. Shenoy has developed a precise brain controlled prostheses intended for people with paralysis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig’s disease.” He is a professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University.
Dr. Shenoy discusses the work he and his team have been doing. “This is a fundamentally new approach that can be further refined and optimized to give brain-controlled prostheses greater performance, and therefore greater clinical viability.” Click here to read the article for more information on his neuroscience research.
