Engineer Award, Alumni, & Scholar (August 2015)

Missouri University of Science and Technology adjunct professor of civil, architectural, and environmental engineering Robert R. Holmes Jr., Ph.D., P.E. (MO B ’87), will receive the 2015 Government Civil Engineer of the Year award on October 13 in New York. Dr. Holmes is also the national flood hazard specialist and coordinator with the U.S. Geological Survey.

Established by the Government Engineers Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the award recognizes distinguished civil engineers employed in public service for significant engineering contributions. Members of the TBP Central Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) Alumni Chapter participated in the Engineering Grad Fest at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on Wednesday, August 20. The fair serves as a student orientation and resource event for new engineering graduate students. The Central Illinois members hosted a booth to recruit new graduate students to join the alumni chapter. The image below is of Lauren H. Logan, OH D ’10, and Diana M. Christopher M. Ludtka, TN A 2015, has been selected as a Whitaker International Scholar. The Whitaker program “sends U.S. students in biomedical engineering abroad to work on self-designed projects that will enhance their careers in the field.”

Ludtka is a senior chemical engineering major with a biomolecular concentration at the University of Tennessee. He will spend the next year studying in Germany. According to the news announcement, Ludtka spent the summer summer as an intern at the Fraunhofer Institut für Werkstoffmechanik in Halle, Germany, conducting medical research. He investigated degradation of cartilage in the human spine. After graduation, he plans to attend medical school.
