Anthony J. Catanese, Ph.D. (FL E ’63), president and CEO of Florida Institute of Technology has announced his retirement beginning June 30, 2016. Dr. Catanese has served in his current role for 14 years elevating the University from regional respect to international acclaim. The Florida Tech Board of Trustees has announced that Executive Vice President and COO T. Dwayne McCay, Ph.D. (AL A ’68), has been appointed to succeed Catanese as president and CEO. Dr. McCay was hired by Dr. Catanese and previously served as vice president for research and information technology and served as the Chief Research Officer and Chief Information Officer for all units of the University of Tennessee.

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Dean of the engineering college has announced his retirement effective June 30, 2016. Harvey H. Palmer, Ph.D., P.E. (NY K ’67), has led the Kate Gleason College of Engineering for the past 15 years. According to the news article, Dr. Palmer has “transformed the RIT engineering curriculum, added new programs, including a doctoral degree in microsystems engineering.”
During his time as dean, he continued to teach several classes in the chemical engineering and honors programs at the college. He also serves as an collegiate chapter advisor to the NY Kappa Chapter of Tau Beta Pi and received the 2011 R. Well Moulton Distinguished Alumnus Award in Academia from his alma mater, the University of Washington, where he received his doctoral degree.

Staring October 19, 2015, Jennifer Sinclair Curtis, Ph.D., will be the new Dean of the University of California Davis College of Engineering. Dr. Curtis will replace current Interim Dean Jean S. VanderGheynst, Ph.D. (NY B ’91) who has served since July 1, 2015. Currently, Dr. Curtis is the Associate Dean for Research at the University of Florida. She earned her bachelor of science in chemical engineering from Purdue University and her master’s and Ph.D. from Princeton University. Click here to read the announcement
