New Dean, Academic All-Americans, & Radio World Engineering Award

The University of South Carolina has named Hossein Haj-Hariri, Ph.D. (MA B ’84), as the next dean of the University’s College of Engineering and Computing, beginning January 2016. Dr. Haj-Hariri is currently a professor and chair of the department of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the University of Virginia. Three Tau Bates were recently selected for the 2015-16 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I football teams. Click here for the All-America Division I first and second football teams.

Justin D. NorthernCA R 2016, a mechanical engineering senior at California State University, Fresno, and second team All-American; he made 39 consecutive starts as a right tackle on the football team, three-time Academic All-District selection and three-time Mountain West Scholar Athlete honoree, and serves as the committee service chair for the California Rho Chapter of Tau Beta Pi.

Cody J. SorensenID B2016, a senior mechanical engineering major at Idaho State University and first team All-American; he is a three-time All-Region academic honoree, semi-finalist for the 2015 Campbell Trophy, and named to the 2014 FCS ADA Academic All-Star team.

Stephen ZaborskyOH L 2015, a mechanical engineering graduate from Youngstown State University (YSU) and second team All-American; he recorded 34 tackles this season as a defensive tackle on the football team, is a first-team Academic All-Missouri Valley Conference honoree, and already earned his degree and is currently pursuing his MBA at YSU.

David H. Layer, MD B ’81, is the 2015 recipient of Radio World’s Excellence in Engineering Award. Layer is senior director, advanced engineering, in the technology department of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). He is the 12th honoree of the award which represents “the highest ideals of the U.S. radio broadcast engineering profession and reflect those ideals through contributions to the industry.”
