Engineer Profiles: Athletes, Professor, & Students (Dec. 2015)

One Tau Bate was recently selected for the 2015-16 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III volleyball teams. Click here for the All-America Division III first, second, and third volleyball teams.

Sarah C. JensenIN B 2015, a chemical engineering senior at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and third team All-American. She led all 2015 NCAA Division III volleyball players with 23 career triple-doubles, in terms of kills, assists and digs in a match. She earned first-team all-conference recognition in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Tori Wuthrich is a junior aerospace & astronautical engineering major at MIT and was named as a second team All-American. She is eligible to join Tau Beta Pi at the Massachusetts Beta Chapter in early 2016.

The Atlantic magazine recently profiled John O. Dabiri, Ph.D. (NJ D ’01), for his research of jellyfish related to understanding how they swim. Dr. Dabiri is a professor in the School of Engineering at Stanford University. This year alone, he “made a truly surprising discovery that upturns our understanding of how animals swim, with important implications for the design of underwater vehicles.” His research indicates that underwater vehicles’ use of propellers to generate high pressure may be backwards. The Iowa State University (ISU) College of Engineering has announced that industrial engineering major Michael “Jake” Hoefer, IA A 2015, has been selected as the student marshal for the fall 2015 commencement ceremony.

Read the news release for information on his activities, including receiving the President’s Leadership Initiative Award, as vice president of the ISU Student Government, and his development of CySwap (a student marketplace that promotes reuse among students). The article also named the outstanding ISU engineering seniors for the fall 2015. The following five Tau Bates were selected:
