The Minnesota Lawyer has selected Daniel W. McDonald, MN A ’82, as the “Attorney of the Year 2015.” McDonald is a partner at the intellectual property law firm Merchant & Gould. According to the press release, he was selected for this “award based on leadership in professional associations, success in important cases, participation in newsworthy events in the legal community, excellence in legal services and significant public service.”
McDonald has been in private practice for 30 years, focusing on patent litigation, trademark/trade dress litigation, copyright litigation, and trade secret litigation with an emphasis on electronics, software, and Internet issues. This year he served as Chair-Elect of the Board of Directors for the University of Minnesota Alumni Association. He is a University of Minnesota – Twin Cities alumnus with a degree in electrical engineering and a Tau Beta Pi Fellow (1982-83).

Charles W. Bachman III, MI A ’48, will receive an honorary doctorate of engineering from Michigan State University (MSU) on Friday, December 18, as part of the advanced degree ceremony during MSU’s fall commencement. Bachman is a world-renowned computer scientist, 2014 National Medal of Technology and Innovation recipient, and earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from MSU.

Munson, Ph.D. (DE A ’75), gives you “The Return of the Holiday Rap: A Jedi’s Chant.” Dr. Munson became dean in 2006, but according to term limitations winter 2016 will be his last semester as dean.
