New Dean, Practice Group Lead, Chairman (January 2016)

Howard University (DC) has announced the appointment of Achille Messac, Ph.D. (MA B ’80), as the new Dean of the College of Engineering, Architecture and Computer Sciences, effective immediately. Dr. Messac was previously Dean of Engineering and professor of engineering at Mississippi State University. He earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. from MIT from the department of aeronautical and astronautical engineering.

Patent lawyer and principal Kurt L. Glitzenstein, MA B ’88, has been named the Practice Group Leader for Fish & Richardson’s Litigation Group, the firm’s largest practice. In this role, Glitzenstein “will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the firm’s premier intellectual property and commercial litigation practice, which includes 250 lawyers in 12 offices, and which for over a decade has handled more patent litigation than any other law firm in the country.”

His continued focus will be on patent litigation in life sciences practice, computers and electrical engineering, medical devices, financial services, cleantech, energy, chemistry, and consumer products. Joe P. Wojtal, MO G ’86, has been elected Chairman of the Board of the Loop Media Hub, “a not for profit corporation focused on developing Innovation Neighborhoods, in conjunction with the Cortex, St. Louis Innovation District.” According to the news announcement, Wojtal has 30 years of experience in the technology industry and recently retired from Cisco as the vice president of development solutions, services, and operations after 20+ years with the company.

In addition, he consults with local engineering/technology firms including World Wide Technology and Sitton Energy Solutions. He has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Washington University (MO), a master’s from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, and served in the U.S. Air Force at Hanscom AFB, MA.
