Tau Bate Accomplishments: Professional Engineer, Sports Jeopardy, & City Engineer

Hussey Gay Bell (GA) announced that traffic engineer Kelly R. Farabee, SC A ’07, recently achieved professional engineer licensure status. According to the announcement, Farabee, P.E., has “more than four years of experience specializing in the development of traffic impact analysis reports, traffic signal plans, (and more) … for clients throughout Georgia and South Carolina.”

Her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and architecture was earned at Clemson University. She also has a master’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

Vinny K. Varadarajan, NJ G ’11, was recently profiled by the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) for his winning streak on season two of Sports Jeopardy! At the time of publication, he had won 12 straight games on the show that streams every Wednesday on the Crackle digital-only network. “I’ve always found sports facts easy to remember and usually was the go-to guy during pub trivia nights (including while at NJIT),” Varadarajan said.

Varadarajan completed his bachelor’s degree at NJIT in civil engineering where he was an Albert Dorman Honors College scholar and active with the NJ Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. He then went on to attend graduate school at Purdue University and complete his master’s in transportation engineering last year. He is now employed as a transportation engineer in Washington, D.C. The Stephenville Empire-Tribune (TX) reports that Gene C. Calvert, P.E. (WY A ’97), has assumed the newly-created post of city engineer for Stephenville (TX). He previously served as the assistant director for the Public Works Department in New Braunfels, TX, the past three years.

Calvert earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, a master’s degree in civil/transportation engineering from the University of Wyoming, and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas and is nationally certified as a professional traffic operations engineer.
