Engineer Spotlight: New Faces, Outstanding Alumni, & Intl. Women’s Day

Cody W. Dodge, CA Q 2016, has been named one of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 2016 new faces of civil engineering. The new faces, college edition, program “spotlights the next generation of civil engineering leaders by highlighting their academic success, volunteering and dedication to making a positive impact on society through civil engineering.

Dodge is a civil engineering senior at California State University, Long Beach, and serves as president of the local ASCE student chapter. In addition, he has interned with the Long Beach-based contractor Traylor Bros, where he has been working on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Regional Connector Transit Corridor Project in Downtown Los Angeles. Bijan Hosseininejad, P.E. (OH L ’06), – Outstanding Young Alumnus: electrical engineering grad, 2005 TBP Scholar, and systems engineer at Babcoack & Wilcox Power Generation Group.
John A. Hamley (OH L ’85) – Outstanding Alumnus: electrical engineering grad & manager, radioisotope power systems program at NASA.
Kyle R. Spickler (OH L 2016) – Intern of the Year: electrical engineering senior, OH Lambda corresponding secretary, and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. intern.
Hailey A. Sullivan (OH L 2017) – Co-Op Student of the Year: chemical engineering major and proposal engineer co-op in the Process Automation division at ABB Inc.

The Cauldron student newspaper of Cleveland State University (CSU) recently profiled five women as CSU “who are taking initiative to empower other women with their success.” The article is in honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day on March 8. Claudine Lacdao, OH E 2016, was one of the students profiled. Lacdao is majoring in chemical engineering at CSU, serves as corresponding secretary to the OH E Chapter of TBP, and has completed three co-op positions with the University of Central Florida and Lubrizol.

“It’s such a powerful feeling to be able to say ‘Yes, I’m a woman engineer and I’m just as great as the next engineer.'” Lacdao said. “I’m just as capable, just as competent.” She is part of the 4+1 program and will graduate with her maser’s degree and plans to work in industry doing research.
