Recognition of Service, Public Works Director, & Major Gift

This week, the University of Central Florida (UCF) recognized faculty and staff members for their milestone years of service to UCF during the Founders’ Day ceremony. Several of those receiving recognition are Tau Beta Pi members, including: (Click here for the full list.)

C. David Cooper, Ph.D., P.E. – (SC A ’69) granted emeritus status, professor of civil engineering at UCF for nearly 20 years.
Ahmad K. Elshennawy, Ph.D. – (PA B ’85) recognition of 30 years of service to UCF, professor and associate chair of IE dept.
Avelino J. Gonzalez, Ph.D. – (FL B ’73) recognition of 30 years of service to UCF, director, international eng’g program
Juin J. Liou, Ph.D. – (FL D ’82) recognition of 30 years of service to UCF, professor ECE dept.
Donald C. Malocha, Ph.D. – (FL D ’72) granted emeritus status, ECE professor since 1982
Samuel M. Richie, Ph.D. – (FL D ’79) granted emeritus status, ECE associate professor & undergrad program coordinator
Kalpathy B. Sundaram, Ph.D. – (FL D ’70) recognition of 30 years of service to UCF, ECE professor & grad. coordinator

Frederick G. Ehler IV, P.E. (NY X ’86), begins immediately as the new Denton County (TX) public works director. Previously, Ehler was a Denton County staff engineer. His responsibilities will include supervising a staff of 14 and overseeing new county construction projects.

Read the article for more information on Ehler who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Manhattan College (NY), previously worked as a consultant to FEMA, and has had a 30-year career as a civil and structural engineer.

Yeshiva University (NY) has established the The Mordecai D. and Monique C. Katz School of Graduate and Professional Studies, “which will offer students of all ages the opportunity to further their education, careers and intellectual aspirations.” The Katz School was named in recognition of a financial commitment from Drs. Mordeaci and Monique Katz.

According to the news article, Mordecai D. Katz, Ph.D. (NY Z ’52), is a former aerospace executive and current vice chairman of the Yeshiva University (YU) Board of Trustees. Monique Katz, a retired radiologist and graduate of YU-affiliated Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The Katz School will offer a range of degrees, including data science and cybersecurity.
