The Penn State University News is reporting that Janis P. Terpenny, Ph.D. (IA A ’81), was inducted into the Virginia Tech Industrial and Systems Engineering Academy of Distinguished Alumni on April 25. Dr. Terpenny a professor and department head of industrial and manufacturing engineering at Penn State earned her master’s and doctoral degrees from Virginia Tech.

She is also the director of the Center for e-Design, a National Science Foundation industry/university cooperative research center “solving pressing problems associated with the design, manufacture, delivery and sustainment of innovative, high quality, lower cost products.” Previously she was the department chair of industrial and manufacturing systems engineering at Iowa State University. Hanqiu “Robin” Li, MA E 2017, was recently profiled by Northeastern University as one of three students participating in a “Bike and Build” program this summer. As part of the program, Robin will bike from coast to coast while building affordable housing along the route. The journey will cover 4,ooo miles, 15 states, 10 weeks, and more than a dozen build days.

“I’m a hands-​​on person and love to build stuff,” says Li, a third-​​year mechan­ical engi­neering major and the trea­surer of the MA Epsilon Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at Northeastern.
