Alumni Recognition: Coffin-Mason, Alumnus of the Year, & Gold Award

R. Craig McClung, Ph.D. (TN A ’81), has received the Coffin-Manson Fatigue Achievement Award from the ASTM Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture. Dr. McClung is program director at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio. He is an ASTM Fellow, received the Award of Merit, and has been a member of ASME since 1989. The Cooper Union Alumni Association announced that Adrian B. Jovanovic, NY I ’89, has been named the 2016 Alumnus of the Year. Jovanovic is president and founder of eMedia Music Corp., a leading publisher of educational music software. He previously worked as a software design engineer and program manager at Microsoft.

He is also co-founder and president of the Committee to Save Cooper Union and now serves on the Cooper Union Board of Trustees. During his time pursuing his undergraduate degree in engineering, he served as president of the New York Iota Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. Read the newsletter for more details.

Sisters Tess and Bridget E. Hegarty, NY D ’13, were profiled by the Brookfield Patch (CT) in celebration of the Gold Award Centennial. The Gold Award is the highest award earned in Girl Scouting. Bridget is working on her Ph.D. in environmental engineering at Yale University. Her project to earn her Gold Award centered on supporting teens with Celiac Disease.

“When I was in high school, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, so I had a lot of questions,” Bridget said. “I found that there were very few resources to explain my disease to others, so I decided to focus my Gold Award Project on that.” During her undergrad work at Cornell University, Bridget was president of the NY Delta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi and now serves as an advisor to the CT Alpha Chapter.
